Searching for a Mini English Bulldog to bring home for your family could be a tough task. First things first, you have to know about them and how to take care of them before purchasing one.
Then, find a reliable English bulldog breeder to ensure that the puppy came from a champion bloodline. Most importantly, you are sure that what you are buying is perfectly healthy and free from potential diseases. Otherwise, you will be putting not only your family at risk but also the English bulldog puppy that you will be taking home.
All About Mini English Bulldogs
- First, let’s begin with its history. Bulldogs were actually used to be bred to attack, centuries ago. They were once used for bull baiting during the thirteenth century. The word “bulldog” began in the sixteenth century, and this breed looked really different before than today.
- Many people tried to crossbreed the bulldog with different species, and in the eighteenth century, it was impossible to find a purebred English Bulldog. No matter what kind of past a Bulldog has been to, today, Bulldogs are lovable, loyal and sweet tempered. These companions are no longer bred to fight, but can be another member to your family.
- Through the years, breeders of English bulldogs have worked very hard to remove the scary side of the temperament of a Bulldog – but still keeping it’s ferocious look. The English bulldog seems really intimidating and scary – but the truth is, they are really gentle, affectionate and loyal.
Steps to Make Your Mini English Bulldog Healthy
Now that you know about where Bulldogs actually originated from, let me share with you some tips when you bring your new puppy home. We know that aside from a good home and a good environment, your puppy’s health is the most important factor. So bear in mind these important reminders to keep your mini English bulldog healthy:
- It is vital that you maintain your dog’s healthy intake of food and water. Along with that, remember to regularly clean and wash their bowls to avoid consuming spoiled food and bacteria build up that may be hazardous for their health.
- It is crucial that your puppy eats a balanced meal. He needs water, vitamins and minerals. The most important requirement is water, because it makes up sixty percent of a dog’s weight.
- Just like giving your baby formula milk and not grown up solid food, make sure to do the same thing to your puppy. Puppy food is very different from adult dog food. Puppy food is designed for a rapidly growing dog.
- In your puppy’s first year, he will grow very quickly. Then, you can switch him to adult dog food when he reaches about eighty to ninety percent of his adult weight.
- The most important thing that you should bear in mind is that try not to feed your puppy table food scraps. These are too fatty for your puppy’s digestive system. This food may cause your puppy to vomit or have diarrhea. In the long run, it may cause your dog to be obese and acquire other health conditions. It is best to stick with the recommended dog food brand or type.

English Bulldog Puppies
English bulldog puppies are about as cute as they come. Everyone falls in love with these pups from the moment they lay eyes upon them. Their faces with the extra folds of skin and the small under bite that all English bulldogs have, is part of the reason they are so irresistible.
The English bulldog belongs in the house with their master where they feel the most comfortable. They need this companionship more than other breeds of dogs. This type of dog will do very well in an apartment since they are very laid back and are content just to lay by the owner. They make a great pet for kids also, while usually getting along with other pets at home.
Your best bet when buying your puppies is to watch the litter interact and choose the one that you like the best. Since English bulldog puppies are not known for protection dogs, you do not have to be so choosy about the pack leaders in the litter.
How to Get Along With Your English Bulldog Puppies
English bulldog puppies are extremely stubborn and bull headed. The family needs to establish quickly what the social order is around the house. Once the dog learns this, they stay in line without problems. The dogs do take up to two years to reach maturity. So for the first couple of years, the puppies will be quite active. After that, they become very lazy. They are also known to drool, slobber, be messy eaters and snore quite loudly.
English bulldog puppies come in a lot of different color patterns and it is up to the individual as to what they like. They have a nice slick coat that is easy to care for and are in the normal shedding range. Even though the dog looks small in stature, they are quite massive and thick. The dog seems to be aware of its own power and strength and so does not feel the need to project that image.
Make sure you take your new puppy outside about every hour until you are able to house train it. Give the puppy chew toys to occupy their time and help with the cutting of more teeth in their massive mouth. It is important that you do not let your dog get overweight. English bulldogs are prone to breathing problems, poor eyesight, very susceptible to heat strokes, skin infections, hip and knee problems and flatulence if fed anything other than their regular dog food.
Purchase Your English Bulldog Puppies Only From The Best Breeders

You have your heart set on a cute, wrinkly little English bulldog puppy, so where do you begin? Quality bred English Bulldog puppies are not cheap and breeders should be researched thoroughly before a decision is made. If you were looking to purchase a television that costs from $2,000 to $4,500 plus, you would do a bit of research first. You would read reviews, ask questions and compare different brands. It is no different when looking to purchase an English Bulldog puppy from reliable English Bulldog breeders.
English Bulldog Breeders
If you have local English bulldog breeders, it makes sense to start with them since you can easily visit their kennel or home and meet the dogs in person. However, your local breeders may not have an available litter, may offer bloodlines you don’t want or have a long waiting list. In this case, the next step would be to look further afield.
The Internet definitely makes searching for a bulldog puppy easier, however, it also increases the chance of coming across uncaring breeders or outright scammers. While this seems daunting, there are some common sense rules you can follow that can make your search for the right English Bulldog puppy successful.
Do not base your decision on picking the lowest priced puppy you can find. It is an expensive proposition to breed English Bulldogs as most bitches must deliver puppies via caesarean section. Also, around the clock care is needed during the early weeks as the mother can roll on top of the puppies and suffocate them. Scammers try to attract buyers by stealing photos from reputable breeders and attaching a very low price tag. Remember, you will get what you pay for, which in some cases may be nothing at all.
Ways to Find the Right English Bulldog Puppy
Ask questions! English Bulldog breeders that are passionate about what they do will expect you to ask a lot of questions. On the other hand, they will also ask you questions and discuss the “ins and outs” of raising an English Bulldog puppy. A knowledgeable and caring breeder will want to make sure their puppy goes to a loving home with owners who understand the special concerns of the English Bulldog breed.
Look for a breeder that does not just focus on breeding for the “bulldog standard.” A responsible breeder will also breed for health and temperament and not just conformation. Make sure you ask about the genetic backgrounds of the parents, any health guarantees offered and which initial health care measures will be included (shots, worming, etc.). Also, make sure that they will are willing to stay in contact and provide lifetime support.
Try to find customers who have purchased an English Bulldog puppy from the breeder. Honest breeders will readily provide contact information for past customers and likely post testimonials on their web site. But perhaps one of the best methods is to check out the Facebook page of the breeder, if they have one available. On Facebook, many customers will comment and post photos and videos of the puppies they bought from the breeder.
Be Patient When Finding a Breeder for Your Bulldog
One last piece of advice is to take your time when choosing a breeder from which to purchase your English Bulldog puppy. Don’t get “bullied” into buying if you are not sure the match is right for you. An honest breeder will appreciate that you are committed to making sure the puppy you choose is the one of your dreams!

AKC Registered English Bulldogs
The American kennel club is a dedicated organization for dogs in the United States, having 125 years of expertise. This is the reason why more and more people are choosing to buy AKC Registered English Bulldogs and other full breed dogs to ensure pure blood lines. Their major responsibilities are registration of purebred dogs, organizing annual events and dog shows at state and country levels. The American Kennel Club has long been the nation’s advocate for dogs and the people who love them. The AKC registers dogs and provides a certified printed or electronic document that will display the lineage of a dog and all of the important information regarding dogs ancestry. This organization performs DNA testing to locate a certain dog’s origin or blood line that is why you are 100% sure that your dogs are of pure breed.
AKC dog breeds are important, as they also help establish a distinct family line that will determine how pure one’s dog is. This can help when you are trying to learn about your dog’s history, or when you are looking to breed your dog. If you wish to find a mate for your dog, checking with the American Kennel Club to see if both dogs are purebred can make a big difference in the value of the dog’s litter.
Aside from all these, the American Kennel Club offers online services for easy and fast communication. It has a database of all breeds of registered dogs, their characteristics, and an online stud book. There are training guides also available to help dog owners provide the basic tips of obedience training and dog clubs in any particular area. Breeder’s classifieds are also there for people who want to buy or sell their dogs. It has information on breed rescue groups as well.
There are also several dog magazines available like the AKC Gazette and the AKC Family Dog. These magazines are for communicating all required information in a reader friendly format. The AKC has an interactive website with much information on dogs, their breeds, health, current news and dog shows.
Microchips & English Bulldog Recovery By The AKC
AKC Companion Animal Recovery (CAR), founded in 1995, is the nation’s largest nonprofit pet ID and recovery service, serving pet owners, clubs, vets, shelters, and of course, and AKC breeders.
As a responsible breeder, you understand it is critical that you can identify each of your dogs and know their parentage. Microchips provide proof-positive permanent identification that not only meets the requirement of identifying dogs, but also provides puppy buyers additional peace of mind knowing that their pet can be identified if lost.
The AKC is the only purebred registry in the United States with an ongoing routine kennel inspection program. The AKC has a dedicated team of field inspectors who visit kennels to help breeders while ensuring the proper care and conditions of AKC-registered dogs and verify that breeders are maintaining accurate records for their dogs. Since 2000, AKC field inspectors have conducted over 45,000 inspections nationwide.

Males vs. Female puppies – what’s the difference? I have found it to be interesting that most often people believe that girl puppies will grow up to be more affectionate and easier to house break than males, and that boy puppies, without exception, will eventually start to urine-mark his territory – thus destroying furniture and carpets.
As a breeder, I have observed female and male puppies, as well as female/male adult dogs, individually and in group environments. This opportunity has given me some insight to the, sometimes misleading and confusing differences between the two genders. It is important to understand that an unaltered (not spayed or neutered) dog will behave differently than an altered (spayed or neutered) dog no matter the gender of the dog.
Considering a Female Dog? Then Consider This… When asked to share my opinion of the temperaments between male and female dogs, I always start off by pointing out that the temperament of one dog can be very different of that of another dog. The sex of the dog having little or nothing to do with it. However, I have made some observations in regards to female puppies/dogs that I am happy to share with others.
Can Female Dogs Be in Control?
Temperament Traits Some unaltered (not spayed) female dogs can be described as a Diva Dog. This always gets a laugh, especially from those who know what I am talking about. These Diva Dogs tend to be very independent preferring time alone over being petted or pampered. They can also be stubborn which can make potty training, and other obeisance training, a bit harder. I once had a 4 month old female puppy that spent the entire one hr puppy kindergarten class (2 days a week) sitting with her back turned to the other puppies in class. She would half heartily participate, if I was involved, but when it was puppy play time, she would sit looking out the fence as far away from the other puppies as she could get – giving an occasional glance over her shoulder to see if I was still there. It was obvious that she did not consider the other puppies worthy of her time or attention.
Alpha Leaders, observing my three adult females and two adult male dogs while they are in the kennel has given me insight as to the Dog Pack dynamics. Unaltered females (ones that have not been spayed) are usually the ones that are in control of the pack. They determine the pecking order, and woe to any dog that does not follow orders. For this reason, an unaltered female can be intent upon showing her dominance over other females. Normally I advise people that already have a female dog in the family, and are looking to add a second dog, to get a male.
Considering a Male Dog? Then Read On… As I mentioned before, it is my firm belief the temperament of dogs differ, just like the temperaments of humans. It would be unfair to say that human girl babies are better than human boy babies or vice versa and the same is true of puppies.
However; I have made some observations of male dogs over the years that I can share with others. Urine Marking Although it is true that unaltered (not neutered) male dogs have a greater reputation for territorial marking unaltered females can, and will, mark their territory just like males – especially if she feels threatened. I have learned that the personality of each puppy and adult dog plays a more important role than gender. Dominance or lack of it, sociability, and or temperament is seldom specifically linked to the sex of the dog.
What are the Effects of Neutering Male Dogs
Neutering is 0ne option, to diminish a dogs desire to urine mark, is to consider Spaying/Neutering. Although I truly believe that having a dog altered is not a substitute for training, An expert, points out that urine marking is eliminated in 50% of neutered male dogs. Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as ‘humping’, or ‘marking’ and lifting of legs.
Once the testosterone levels recede after neutering, most of these behaviors will disappear. The behaviors that are sometimes changed are; the interest in roaming is eliminated in 90% of neutered dogs. Aggressive behavior against other male dogs is eliminated in 60% of neutered dogs. Urine marking is eliminated in 50% of neutered male dogs. Inappropriate mounting is eliminated in 70% of neutered dogs, according to some experts.

Bulldog puppies are very eager to please and friendly by their nature. They are gentle with humans despite their aggression with other dogs. However, you still need to take a lot of time to properly socialize your Bulldog puppies with people and other pets. If you notice any signs of aggression towards humans then they need to be taken to a professional trainer right away.
So from an early age your should take Bulldog puppies around other people and pets. Take them to public area and let strangers pet and play with them, but be sure to establish your authority over the dog. This dominance needs to be established early on in order for your pet to be obedient later in life. Bulldogs especially French bulldog puppies can be dominant. So early proper socialization can help your puppy to develop an even temper.
You also want to make sure that your Bulldog puppies get their vaccinations early and that you constantly keep up their yearly booster shots to prevent them from getting common diseases. Also be sure to ask your veterinarian about the best flea control products and worming treatments for your puppy. For Bulldog puppies you also want to make sure you feed them a high-grade dog food. Meat should be the first ingredient in any high quality dog food. Make sure it contains no less than thirty percent crude protein, twenty percent crude fat and four percent fiber.
Bulldog Puppies Must Have Obedience Training
Each day you want to make sure your puppy gets at least thirty to forty-five minutes of exercise. Bulldog puppies will require a lot of activity. To avoid fights with other dogs, make sure your puppy is on a leash when outdoors. Even the calmest puppy at home will quickly turn into an entirely different dog once it is faced with another dog on a walk outside.
You also want to make sure you start obedience training early. You want to command your puppy through voice alone because of the dominance of the breed. You will likely get best results through positive reinforcement rather than physical since the breed is eager to please. When disciplining Bulldog puppies the cold shoulder approach works best. Since the breed relies on attention, not giving it to them is worse than any other disciplinary methods you can come up with such as a newspaper.
Your Connection to your Bulldog Puppy is Vital
Remaining calm is also important when you raise Bulldog puppies. This is very important for this breed. If your dog senses you are afraid of a person or feels you are in danger for any reason then they will quickly attack that person. Therefore, when around strangers it is important to remain calm otherwise you need to maintain tight control over your dog so they don’t injure other people.

English Bulldog Price
Buying an English Bulldog is not just buying a puppy. While all puppies require an investment of time and money, the bulldog can require more of both. Many of the traits we love in bulldogs contribute to medical problems. The bulldog’s independent and somewhat stubborn nature will likely make training more difficult. If you just want a dog, then an English Bulldog is not for you. Before buying one, you should make a research first and be aware of the English bulldog price.
Rescuing a dog from the pound might cost a couple of hundred dollars for spaying or neutering and necessary shots. There is little doubt you will love your puppy regardless of ancestry; which will probably be unknown. In this circumstance you have a dog with only a small investment.
However, if your heart is set on an English Bulldog then expect it to be a little more expensive. It is important to make a research on research breeders in order to make certain your future bulldog doesn’t come from a puppy mill. After locating a reputable breeder, hopefully relatively close to home, it is a good idea to take a trip to their location.
A close inspection of the breeder’s facilities and a look at both the female and male bulldogs is essential. It won’t hurt to review the medical records of both dogs that either are, or are to be, the parents of your bulldog. You will want to know how often the females are bred; every other year may be best. Of course checking with other customers who have purchased bulldogs from the breeder is also a very good idea.
Care for Your English Bulldog to Avoid Extra Costs
Instead of a couple of hundred dollars, an English Bulldog will likely cost much more. Prices for a purebred English Bulldog can range a little higher depending on the breeder’s discretion. So to avoid spending more, after purchasing your puppy you should always give them time to go out to exercise. Take your English Bulldog for a walk to burn some fats and for them to be fit since they are known to have breathing problems due to their physical structures. Bathe them regularly and be sure to clean their wrinkled skin thoroughly as they are prone to have yeast infections if you don’t.
Buying an English could be really costly that is why you should take sometime to care for your them to avoid spending so much in the future. Always be aware of their diet and they must have exercise for short periods. Bulldogs often require special diets which means you can’t buy just any food for them. Even the healthiest bulldog will require more attention than the average dog and that’s what makes them special.
English Bulldogs Are Indeed Man’s Best Friend
An English Bulldog is a loyal companion good with both children and adults. They quickly become family members and you will truly love them. Playing with them for a few minutes several times a day is enough. As long as you see to it that you are giving them enough attention. Walks are never too long and definitely not in hot weather. Bulldogs make you, and everyone who sees them, smile.
If you can provide the care and time needed, then an English Bulldog is definitely for you. However, if there are doubts about your ability to properly care for one, please consider another pet.
